Dangers of Pigeon Waste
Before you attempt to remove pigeon waste yourself, be sure to gather enough information to do so safely. While AZ bird removal professionals train for this work, you might consider doing it yourself to save on cleaning costs — but only with proper precautions. If removing nests and droppings, always use water to hose down waste solids to avoid breaking them into inhale-able dust. When cleaning fecal matter, wear a double canister mask or supplied air system. Diseases like Pigeon Lung Disease, Legionnaires’ Disease, and Histoplasmosis, all documented by the CDC, have caused serious illness and even death. If you’re dealing with a strong odor from large amounts of waste, you can use a diluted bleach solution for safer cleanup.

Prevent Pigeons From Nesting on Roof

If you have a 2 story home with “undershot” nesting spots, chances are you have had pigeon problems before or will have them one day. Arizona Game and Fish recommends making sure a pigeon could not nest even if they tried. This means treating all existing and potential nesting spots.
Qualify your pigeon control “expert”- ask if they can provide written guarantee for free cleaning and treatment if pigeons nest in, on or against any of their applications. Every contractor guarantees their product will not break or fall off the roof.

Discourage Pigeon Perching
Pigeons may perch on your home for many reasons. It is common to see a bird standing on a treated roof. Still, it is important to check for signs of nesting or broken deterrents.
At The Pigeon Guy, we look at every detail when preparing your personalized AZ bird removal estimate. We target all spots where pigeons stand, roost, or perch to help speed relocation.
But treating perching alone often wastes time and money if you don’t fix the nesting problem first.
Trapping also offers only a short-term fix and often sells as a monthly service. Because of this, we prefer long-term plans. Our proven methods stop pigeons and future flocks for years.

Pigeon Trapping

Trapping is highly recommended by Arizona Fish and Game when used with complete nesting treatment. We support this approach as part of effective AZ bird removal. This is especially true when the flock size is over 15–20 birds and the upper perches are treated too.
Without trapping, we achieve long-term results of over 90% using products that discourage new flocks. Trapping alone is only a temporary solution. It rarely catches the entire flock.
Improper trapping creates trap- and bait-smart pigeons. These birds can taunt you for years. If a contractor says they charge monthly for trapping, be cautious. That is a red flag.
Eliminating the flock by shooting or self-poisoning is illegal. Some professionals claim “euthanizing” is done with a chemical called Avitrol. This method is destructive and illegal. The product causes severe mental distress, seizures, and overkill. Using pesticides in ways that do not follow the label is against the law.
Please tell us if you have trapped before. We can then create a more efficient trapping plan. We relocate birds permanently according to AZ Game and Fish guidelines. When trapping, expect over 90% flock reduction. However, some birds may remain.
