In many cases, what defines these areas as dead valley troughs—rather than undershots—is when the tile valley connects directly to the stucco wall, therefore creating an ideal nesting location for pigeons. Over time, these untreated spots can become a serious concern, especially when it comes to water damage. As pigeon waste accumulates, it prevents proper water drainage from the roof. Consequently, water begins to pool. Eventually, this buildup causes water to rise above the galvanized pan and start seeping into the stucco wall, which in turn leads to costly structural damage.
HVAC Unit
Like solar panels, HVAC units create shaded areas that pigeons often use to nest. Even if you don’t see pigeons coming and going, it’s still possible they’re nesting underneath the unit. Therefore, regular inspections are important to catch hidden nests early.
